India - 14 Salesians Ordained to Serve the Church and the People

On March 19, 2023, 14 Salesian students of theology from Becchi Don Bosco theologate, Kavarapettai, were ordained Deacons by Most Rev. Dr. George Antonysamy D.D.  Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore at Votive Shrine, Kilpauk, Chennai, in the presence of Fr. Don Bosco Lourdusamy sdb, Provincial of Chennai Province, Fr. Agilan Sarprasadam sdb, Provincial of Trichy Province, Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga sdb, Superior of the Vice Province of Maria Sede della Sapienza, Rome, Fr. Arulappa, Parish Priest of Votive Shrine, Kilpauk, together with a large number of priests, religious, parents, relatives and the faithful, who had gathered for this auspicious event. Among the 14 new ordained Deacons 10 belonged to the Province of Chennai and 4 to the province of Tiruchy.

Fr. Bellarmine SDB, the Rector of Becchi Don Bosco, Kavarapettai, welcomed the gathering at the beginning of the Holy Eucharist. The 14 candidates for the diaconate ordination were presented to the Archbishop by Fr. Don Bosco Lourdusamy, the Provincial of Chennai. In his homily, Archbishop George highlighted the significance of the Order of the Diaconate. The Order of Diaconate, he said, is a call to service - service of the altar, service of the poor and service of the local Church.  He particularly reminded them to be prophets, soldiers and servants like Jesus Christ in the contemporary world.
