22 March 2023

Zambia - March 2023 - On March 17 and 18, two Curatoria were held in the Salesian Vice-Province "Mary Help of Christians" of Zambia-Zimbabwe-Malawi-Namibia (ZMB): the Lusaka-Makeni postnovitiate, led by Fr. Vincent Tembo; and the Kabwe novitiate, led by Fr. Chisanga Tresphord, who is also the Novice Master. Both meetings were attended by the Salesian Superiors of the ZMB VP, Fr. Michael Mbadama, of the Southern Africa (AFM) VP, Fr. Václav Klement, and of the Central Africa Province (AFC), Fr. Guillermo Basañes, together with the Formation team, and Joseph Nyondo, Economer of the ZMB VP. Before the Curatoria, the Superiors met personally with their respective postnovices and novices and animated both formation communities. In the Kabwe novitiate, there are currently 20 novices from 5 countries - Zambia, Malawi, Congo, South Africa, Pakistan - and 5 formators. In the postnovitiate there are now 42 confreres coming from 9 countries (RD Congo, Ethiopia, India, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Poland, Zambia and Zimbabwe), while in the 3 year course are 35 postnovices accompanied by 5 formators and two practical trainees.During the meetings, the Superiors appreciated the progress in formation, in particular, closer accompaniment, improved infrastructure, a more systematic apostolic experience, and above all and the Memorandum of Understanding between the Postnovitiate Study Center and Saint Bonaventure University which was signed in Lusaka on January 7, 2023. There is also ongoing infrastructure development of the Postnovitiate and Study Center in the Lusaka-Makeni community.
