Poland - First Workshop on the theme "Salesian Presence in the Virtual World" of Warsaw Salesian Province

22 March 2023

Warsaw, Poland - March 2023 - The 1st Workshop on the theme "Salesian Presence in the Virtual World" was held on March 18 with about 60 participants including Salesians and lay people. The meeting was opened by Fr. Piotr Sosnowski, Vicar of the Salesian Province of Poland-Warsaw (PLE), and featured three training sessions. The first, entitled "Salesians and Their Presence on the Digital Continent. Facebook as a tool for New Evangelization," was led by Magdalena Jeżak-Śmigielska. She spoke about the functions of social networks in the Church, emphasizing, among others, their roles: informative, educational, promotional, evangelizing, formative and communal; she also provided practical advice on how to use Facebook to make a presence on this platform effective. The next session, "Editing and Proofreading," was led by Hanna Kamińska, who explained what editing is, emphasizing that the proofreader pays attention to grammatical, lexical, phonetic, stylistic, spelling, and substantive errors and that proofreading is not about content or composition. She also showed how to write and what tools to use to attract the reader. The last session, "Three Steps to Better Photos in Online Publications and More," was led by Kamil Szumotalski, who explained that today one can use either a phone or a camera to take photographs; both are good photographic tools as long as one remembers some immutable rules: good lighting of the photographed subject and the right distance. There was plenty of room for dialogue during the workshop and Fr. Adrian Arkita, SDB, coordinator of the meeting, said he is convinced that this initiative will bear good fruit and that there will be more workshops like this in the future.
