Bolivia - Don Bosco “working-class” schools plan projects with Directors

24 March 2023

Cochabamba, Bolivia - March 2023 - On March 16 and 17, 115 Directors of the educational units of the Salesian Network of Don Bosco “working-class” or people’s schools of Bolivia met at the “Don Bosco Fátima” House for Events in Cochabamba. Representatives of educational units run by Salesian religious, Salesian Family, and other congregations and, above all, lay educators committed to the Salesian charism participated. It was two days of reflection in a Salesian atmosphere of friendship, co-responsibility, and joy, after three years of pandemic and post-pandemic, which did not allow for in-person meetings. The content of the reflection was developed in three moments: situational, doctrinal, and operational framework. In the first, the Bolivian educational context was analyzed from different perspectives; in the second, the Catholic Church’s awareness of the challenges that the Curricular updating or reform of the Ministry of Education would cause in relation to the explicit introduction of themes of gender ideology was raised; in the third, the situation and the importance of managing educational units based on a Pastoral Educational Project (PEP), elaborated in a participatory way and agreed upon with the educational community, was analyzed. In a second moment, the Doctrinal Framework of the Don Bosco “People's” Schools and the identity of the Salesian Director were explored in depth, making sense of all that is planned to be implemented in the educational units. Finally, in the operational framework, with the participation of the Directors, a consensus was reached on the actions that will make it possible to address, as a Church and with the participation of parents, the new challenges, as well as to implement the recommendations of the Educational Quality Assessment and to begin developing the PEP for the next three-year cycle.
