Kenya - 18 Salesian Cooperators make their promise

20 April 2023

Nairobi, Kenya - At Don Bosco Upper Hill, the Salesian cooperators reached 70 in number with 18 new members making their promise on Divine Mercy Sunday. The solemn celebration was presided over by the Provincial Fr. Simon Asira, who underlined how the Association of the Salesian Cooperators is close to the heart of Don Bosco and collaborates with the Salesians for the education of the poorest young people, loved by him. The formation of the new Cooperators goes hand in hand with those who have been Cooperators for a long time and focuses not only on the study of the constitutions but also regular reading and reflection of the life of Don Bosco and of the Association. For the cooperators, the passion for Don Bosco is manifested in their weekly service to about 500 children and adolescents of the Don Bosco Upper Hill, who belong to the Pontifical Missionary Children (PMC). A group of Cooperators have also founded the Kibera Mission, which visits the neediest people of the Kibera slum, which is one of the largest in Africa, and seeks to place children from extremely poor families in school. The group of Cooperators is also about to begin a new initiative: Salesian Cooperators-Nutrition Programme, a Sunday lunch for the numerous street children of Nairobi. The Cooperators of Upper Hill are genuinely active and in love with Don Bosco, who, for them, is not just a banner, but a model to imitate and to emulate.
