Portugal - Salesian Family and youth of Salesian Youth Movement united in Fátima

Fátima, Portugal - May 2023 - Hundreds of members of the Salesian Family and Salesian Youth Movement from across the country gathered in Fátima over the weekend for their respective annual meetings at the Marian Shrine. On May 20 and 21, the Salesian Family made its annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary in Fátima. In the year when the Church, in Portugal in particular, turns its attention to the celebration of WYD in Lisbon in August, the Salesian Family chose as the theme of its 71st pilgrimage, "With Mary, we set out in haste." The program included a meeting in the Hall of the Good Shepherd, with the Superior of the Salesian Province of Portugal (POR), Fr. José Aníbal Mendonça, the Provincial of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Sr. Rosa Cândida Gomes, and Salesian Family Delegates. The Salesian Family groups presented the theme of the pilgrimage and the IX International Congress of Mary Help of Christians, which will bring hundreds of devotees of Mary Help of Christians from all over the world to Fátima in August 2024. At the end of the day, Fr. Mendonça celebrated the Eucharist in the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity. Bishop Joaquim Augusto Da Silva Mendes, SDB, Auxiliary Bishop of Lisbon, presided at Sunday's Eucharist in the Shrine. On Saturday, May 20, about 600 young people from schools, youth centers, parishes, and other settings of the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians celebrated the National Day of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM). The program included, among other activities, the "Arte e Fé" show.
