Argentina – Salesian Institutions in Northern Argentina Bid Farewell to Pope Francis
Argentina – April 2025 – In the days following Pope Francis' death, St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican had become the epicenter of farewells to the Supreme Pontiff. However, far from Rome, hundreds of faithful worldwide have found other ways to say goodbye and express their gratitude for his legacy.
In the Salesian Province of Northern Argentina (ARN), Salesian institutions held prayer sessions and memorials to honor the Holy Father. With immense gratitude, words of affection, and recognition, celebrations were organized, bringing together children, youth, and adults. Even the youngest found ways to express their love. Letters and messages written by children began circulating among the communities, reflecting the love Pope Francis left in their hearts.
On Monday, April 21, the ARN Province issued an official statement expressing deep sorrow over the Pope's passing and inviting all communities to join the national mourning proposed by the Holy See and the Presidency of the Nation.
“We join the days of mourning declared, and we invite our communities to dedicate time and space for prayer for Pope Francis and for what lies ahead for our Church, always trusting in the grace and work of God,” the statement read.
The figure of Francis, the first Argentine Pope and a Salesian at heart, leaves a profound mark on the Church. His life, words, and testimony will continue to illuminate the path of millions, especially young people, whom he loved so much.
