India – Young People Ignite Marian Devotion at Bandel Shrine
Bandel, India – April 2025 – Youthful energy is revitalizing Marian devotion at the historic Bandel Basilica as young parishioners prepare for the annual May Feast. Guided by Prior Fr. John Puthiyedathuchalil and youth director Fr. Deonis Minj, nine young devotees have created reflective meditations blending the shrine's history with Eucharistic and Marian themes. These reflections, shared on the church's website and YouTube, aim to deepen spiritual engagement within the community. Participants, like Celina D'Cruz and Eva Hembrom, expressed how the initiative strengthened their faith and connection with Our Lady. The May Feast, a significant event for the Archdiocese of Calcutta, will feature Archbishop Thomas D’Souza and honor jubilarians during the Jubilee Year 2025. Managed by the Salesians since 1928, Bandel Church, a minor basilica since 1999, continues to inspire devotion and community spirit through initiatives like this.
