South Africa - Celebration of an important milestone: the first class of SETA-qualified tailors
Cape Town, South Africa - May 2025 - A sense of pride and satisfaction pervaded the campus of the Salesian Institute of Youth Projects' (SIYP) when the first group of SETA accredited tailors proudly presented their completed sewing projects on 30 May. This exhibition marked a milestone for both the students and the Stitch Ahead Sewing programme, which aims to provide young people with marketable skills for sustainable employment in the textile and manufacturing sectors. A total of 16 students graduated after completing four months of intensive training, practical assessments and creative projects. The exhibition is not just a point of arrival, but rather a new beginning: many of the new graduates are already exploring job opportunities or considering starting their own micro-enterprises in the textile and clothing sector.
