DR Congo - A memorable missionary pilgrimage to Kansebula: the Salesian Family honours its pioneers
DR Congo - October 2025 – Sunday, 26 October 2025 was marked by special fervour in Kansebula and at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Kafubu, where the Provincial Commission for Mission Animation and Missions of the Central Africa Province (AFC) organised a lively missionary pilgrimage and the launch of missionary activities. Part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the first Salesian missionary expedition, this event had the inspiring theme: ‘Give thanks, rethink and relaunch’. It brought together a host of guests, including SDBs, FMAs, SYM, young people from the Missionary Circle and other members of the Salesian Family. All were united by the desire to honour the memory of the Salesians who preceded them since their first arrival in 1911. The event began in Kansebula with a conference given by Fr Jean-Pierre Muhima, SDB, moderated by Fr Dominique Kubuya, SDB, Provincial Delegate for Mission Animation. After the conference, a pilgrimage was organised, taking the participants to the cemetery where they prayed at the graves of the missionary pioneers. Then, in Kafubu Cathedral, Fr Guillermo Basañes, AFC Provincial, presided over the Eucharist.
