Spain - Human Rights 2017: "Ciudad Don Bosco Medellín" wins award

Madrid, Spain - December 2017 - On 14 December, the General Council of the Association of Lawyers of Spain awarded the "Human Rights 2017" prize to the Colombian Salesian institute "Ciudad Don Bosco Medellín", for its program "Building Dreams", which works for the social reintegration of former baby soldiers. The Salesian Fr Rafael Bejarano, Director of the Center (on the right in photo), received the award from Spain's Justice Minister, Rafael Catalá, and from the President of the General Council of the Lawyers Association, Victoria Ortega. The NGO "Jóvenes y Desarrollo", of the Mission House of Madrid "Misiones Salesianas", presented the candidacy, winner of the 74 received from all over the world. The documentary "Alto el Fuego" of "Misiones Salesianas" depicted the issue and the tools the Salesians fight it with in the Center for Specialized Protection, in its commitment to peace through education. The other three prizewinners were: the lawyer Albert Parés, who defends migrant minors arriving in Spain; the Nigerian journalist Chika Oduah, who introduced the atrocities of Boko Haram to the world, and the athlete Kathrine Switzer, the first woman who ran the Boston marathon in 1967.
