Poland - Two beautiful traditions to remember from Advent

03 January 2018

Poznań, Poland - December 2017 - For the Salesian schools and parishes in the Polish Church, December is a time wherein various traditions are represented. December 6 is a day when Father Christmas arrives in the parishes and communities (St. Nicholas). Children receive sweets and presents, organize musical parties with various competitions and it is the day of the Salesian oratories. December 8 is a time for celebrations in the spirit of Don Bosco for being the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary we commemorate for the creation of the first oratory. The tradition also includes writing letters to the Immaculate and then burning them. Even today, these traditions are honored in a number of Salesian communities.
