Syria - MOR Province Council visits Salesian presences after 30 years

22 November 2018

Damascus, Syria - November 2018 - On 17 November, for the first time in about thirty years and after the war, the Council of the Salesian Province of the Middle East (MOR) visited the Salesian presences in Damascus, meeting the young people, the councils of the Educative-Pastoral Community and the members of the Salesian Family, and thus being able to see firsthand that the war has not been able to extinguish the young people's faith and love for Don Bosco and his mission among the young. The Provincial Council wanted to set the days of reflection under the intercession of Saint Paul, with a brief pilgrimage to sites that recall his mission in Syria. Then a meeting was held in preparation for the next MOR Provincial Chapter with the oratory's young people, to discuss the theme of the next GC28: "What kind of Salesians for today's young people?" After the visit and a moment of prayer at the shrine of Our Lady of Sednaya, which preserves an icon painted by St. Luke, the Provincial Council visited the monastery of the Cherubim, a defense of the gates of Damascus against the attack of terrorists and where battles were bitterly fought.
