Santiago, Chile - March 2019 - After 40 years of selfless service in the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See in Chile, the Salesian priest Fr Pedro Elías García received the "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" award, that is for his work on behalf of the Church and the Pope. The ceremony was presided over by the Nuncio, Msgr. Ivo Scapolo, in the presence of Fr Carlo Lira, Superior of the Salesian Province of Chile, and of several Salesians. Fr Pedro Elías García was born in Santiago on 21 June 1928 and was ordained a priest on 1 July 1964 in Turin. In 2011 he had already been decorated with the Cross of the Apostle of Santiago.
