Germany – Making a difference for young people in other countries

08 August 2019

Bonn, Germany – July 2019 – They want to make a difference. 48 young people between the ages of 18 and 28 from Germany will start a voluntary service in September as “Don Bosco Volunteer” in the houses of the Salesians of Don Bosco all over the world. For one year the volunteers were prepared with three seminars at the “Aktionszentrum Benediktbeuern” and at the “Don Bosco Mission Bonn” for their one-year assignment in twelve countries worldwide, e.g. India, Malawi and Paraguay. There were two regional ceremonies at the end of July to celebrate the sending of the volunteers: in Benediktbeuern (Bavaria) with 25 young people and in Bonn with 23 volunteers. With family and friends they celebrated in worship and afterwards gathered for food and talk. The young volunteers from Germany will mainly help girls and boys with homework and take care of them in the afternoon as well as assist them in the classroom and arrange leisure activities. Sports and games, art and music, craft activities and educational tasks or the organization of parties and excursions fall into their field of activities, too. Another 30 people or so will start a voluntary service in autumn in the houses of Don Bosco in Germany.
