Russia - Christmas shared between Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches

13 January 2020

Yakutsk, Russia - January 2020 - On January 7, the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated Christmas. The Orthodox diocese of Yakutsk and Lensk, in the Republic of Jacuzia, Russian Federation, celebrated it in unity and sharing with the Catholic Church in order to carry out the evangelical mission together. On 25 December, the Catholic community had received a visit from the secretary of the Orthodox bishop and on 7 January the Salesians returned the visit to the Orthodox bishopric. On both occasions, there was an exchange of gifts and proposals for the mission's success and the promise of unity of prayer. The visitation of the Salesians to the Orthodox bishop coincided with the conclusion of the canonical visitation of Fr Andrej Knaze, Provincial Councilor and Economer of the Province of Slovakia (SLK), on which the Jacuzia mission depends.
