Zárate, Argentina - March 2020 - The educative-pastoral community of the Salesian work of Zárate, belonging to the South Argentina Province (ARS), in this period of compulsory quarantine shares their thoughts, namely that the experience of staying at home does not mean closing the doors of one's heart, nor one's hands to helping others. Each member of the community has thus found ways to help others, being useful to their people, especially to the most needy.
Gagillapur, India - March 22, 2020 - The "Don Bosco Center for Human Resources Development" in Gagillapur, belonging to the Salesian Province of Hyderabad (INH), as an immediate action to combat the spread of coronavirus infection has produced over 1,000 masks. The initiative takes place within the framework of the pilot emergency response project conducted by the Provincial Planning and Development Office, the "Bosco Seva Kendra". The masks were made by the Gagillapur Tailoring Unit and are distributed free of charge to the poor in the area and the state of Telugu, in particular where the Salesians are present. Also, the "Bosco Seva Kendra" has also created information posters to raise awareness on preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
Mandaluyong City, Philippines - March 2020 - As in other parts of the world, quarantine status has been declared in Manila and all over the island of Luzon, so educational activities have been suspended and students have returned to their homes. 14 students, however, who have nowhere to go, stayed at the "Pinardi Boarding School" in Mandaluyong. Faithful to the teachings of Don Bosco, the 14 young people have organized themselves to produce protective visors for medical personnel with the help of Salesians, past pupils and benefactors. They are using commonly found materials. On March 26, three team members delivered the first batch of 450 protective visors to 8 Manila hospitals.
Split, Croatia - March 27, 2020 - The Salesian parish "Mary Help of Christians" in Split has joined an initiative of the students of the Faculties of Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Split, granting them the use of the 3D printer to produce protective visors for medical personnel who are treating patients with COVID-19. 3D printers are working non-stop under the supervision of the Salesians. “We could not ignore the laudable gesture of our students. In collaboration with the county and the center of excellence, we offered our 3D printer for the production of visors for doctors and medical personnel and we have started production," said the Salesians of the parish, who two years ago in the presence of the Rector Major celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Salesian presence in Split.
