Sao Paulo, Brazil - December 2020 - On 5 December, in the "Don Bosco" chapel of the "Pius XI" Salesian Theological Institute, in Alto da Lapa, three Vietnamese Salesian missionaries were ordained priests by the laying on of hands and consecrating prayer of Msgr. Hilario Moser, SDB, Bishop Emeritus of Tubarão. Present at the ceremony, broadcast live on social networks, were Fr Justo Ernesto Piccinini, Provincial of Sao Paolo (BSP), Fr Ricardo Carlos, Provincial of Campo Grande (BCG) and Fr Jefferson Luis Da Silva Santos, Provincial of Manaus (BMA).
Santiago, Chile - December 2020 - On 5 December, four young Salesians from the International Theologate of Lo Cañas, in Santiago, received the ministry of the diaconate: Rogger Valdivia, Juan Miguel Verástegui, José Luis De la Cruz, and Ángel Luis Recuenco, all from “Santa Rosa di Lima” Salesian Province, Peru (PER). The celebration was presided over by Cardinal Ricardo Ezzati, SDB, Archbishop Emeritus of Santiago de Chile, and concelebrated by Fr Carlo Lira, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chile (CIL). The ceremony, broadcast live on social networks, was followed by the Salesians of the Peru Province and by hundreds of people. Fr Manuel Cayo, PER Provincial, wrote a message for the new deacons: “Thank you very much for this present and this great gift for the Church and the Salesian Congregation. A big hug from Lima.”
Ijebu Ode, Nigeria – december 2020 - On December 5, 2020, the Don Michele Rua Community Ijebu Ode together with Salesians led by the Delegate for Mary Help of Christians Delegation Nigeria Fr Anthony Oche, Priests, Religious, Lay people especially young people of Ijebu Ode Diocese gathered in the Salesian parish for the funeral mass of Fr Italo Spagnolo. Fr Italo was among the pioneer Salesians who came to Nigeria in 1982. Fr Italo, who was more than 30 years a missionary in AFW Province passed away in Turin Italy and has since been buried. The funeral mass in Ijebu Ode diocese was Celebrated in the the parish the Salesians and taking care of and were Fr Italo had been parish priest until last year.
Lisbon, Portugal - November 2020 - From 17 to 19 November, the Lisbon Salesians celebrated, at the school church, the ceremony for the conferral of the Awards of Valor and Excellence to last year's students, held in a restricted form due to the pandemic. A student for each school year, on behalf of their classmates, received the prize and everyone underlined the joy of receiving the recognition, thanking the Salesians for having valued them in the intellectual, moral and social fields. “Today we receive these awards in recognition of the path we have walked in the last year, both at the scholastic and human level. But the credit is not ours alone. It is also thanks to all those who have given us the strength to resist in a moment of enormous uncertainty and change. To them, to the Salesians, our big thanks,” said one of the awarded students.
