Kabgayi, Rwanda - June 2020 - On the occasion of the solemnity of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the renewal of the Salesian religious profession of 20 Salesians took place in Kabgayi on 29 June. Pierre-Célestin Ngoboka, Provincial of the Africa Great Lakes Vice Province, celebrated Mass and received the Professions on behalf of the Rector Major. The ceremony took place after a week of annual retreat, led by Fr Leon Panhuysen.
Lubumbashi, D.R. Congo - July 2020 - On 2 July the Provincial Council of Central Africa (AFC) met to monitor the activities of all the Salesian works in the Province which are taking place in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The members of the Provincial Council commit themselves to accompany all communities through this health emergency, inviting the Salesians to keep the focus on prevention measures on high alert.
Shillong, India - July 2020 - On 1st July, at the "Sacred Heart" theologate of Shillong, Msgr. Victor Lyngdoh, bishop of Jowai, ordained 22 Salesian deacons, belonging to 8 Indian Salesian Provinces: New Delhi (4); Tiruchy (1); Bangalore (2); Hyderabad (3); Calcutta (3); Guwahati (3); Dimapur (2); and Shillong (4).
Huelva, Spain - June 2020 - The famous chef José Andrés recently visited the emergency kitchen of the Salesians of Huelva. The chef, with his NGO "World Central Kitchen" (WCK), has distributed 17 million meals in 5 countries, and wanted to personally thank the Huelva volunteers. During the pandemic, with their work and coordinated by chef Xanty Elías, they managed to distribute hundreds of meals a day. With the #chefsforspain initiative, WCK has opened a total of 16 emergency kitchens in Spain and the "Salesian Christ Priest College" of Huelva was one of the chosen locations.
