The Internet has become a platform for evangelization through which various meetings, conferences, retreats, broadcast of Masses, celebrations and adorations are being held. Two groups are currently active in the Theological Studentate: "Ziemia Boga" (Land of God) which constitutes a proposal addressing children and students; and the "Młodzi Światu" (SWM), the Salesian Missionary Volunteer Service. Every day, the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the Rosary prayer of the Salesian community are broadcast online. Once a week, both groups, via video conference, have their meetings.
But the Salesians do not limit themselves to virtual or online activities only; they have also taken up other concrete initiatives. Twelve spiritual sons of Don Bosco, responding to the request of the city authorities, began their volunteering in one of the social care homes where people with chronic mental illnesses are housed. In this situation in which the house staff is in short supply, the service rendered by the Salesians is of great help: even the simple daily tasks related to cleaning and disinfection are crucial for the good health of the home's patients, who for their condition are especially vulnerable.
Also, every day, following the appeal of the archbishop of Krakow and President of the Polish Bishops' Conference, Msgr. Stanisław Gądecki, the Salesians unite in the prayer of the Rosary and in the singing of the Supplications to the whole Church. “It is a gesture of solidarity with the suffering because of the pandemic,” the Provincial Center emphasizes.
And on the subject of sacraments, the number of Masses celebrated has also increased, so that as many people as possible can benefit from participating in the Eucharist, albeit at a distance, in compliance with health restrictions. In addition, some shifts have been organized as regards the confessional, and there is also the possibility of confessions after making an appointment over the phone.
“Christianity means, above all, to bring hope to those who live in despair. The Risen Christ came to His disciples through a closed door, so that the message of Divine Love may arrive in all possible ways," conclude the Salesians of Krakow.
