RMG – Underway, 1st "online" session of General Council elected by GC28

27 April 2020

(ANS - Rome) - The meeting of the General Council of the Salesian Congregation begins today, Monday 27 April, at 12, Italian time. This is a meeting that presents important innovations: it is, in fact, the first meeting of the General Council elected by the 28th General Chapter - which compared to the previous Council has been renewed by as many as 10 members; and it happens online for the first time - given that several of its members are not physically present in Rome due to the restrictions on movement imposed by the global health situation.

Although the General Council has already been working since the end of the General Chapter, the first meeting is held today among all Councilors. The start of the session was initially scheduled for Monday 4 May 2020, but was brought forward to today to facilitate the launch of relevant processes and activities. The end of the work is scheduled for May 8th.

Considering that various Councillors are physically distant, scattered in different countries, from Asia to Latin America, the meetings will take place every day from 12:00 to 14:00 (UTC + 2), at a compatible time for everyone. The TEAMS work platform will be used for plenary meetings. During the session, there will also be meetings that will involve the General Councilors already present at Salesian Headquarters - currently seven in number.

The session that opens today embraces different dimensions: information, firstly, but also formation, and will also serve to make the first nominations.

The summer plenary session, compatibly with the evolution of the pandemic situation, will instead start on Monday 1 June 2020.
