Great Britain – Meeting of the Central and Northern Europe Region for Social Communications

05 November 2020

(ANS – London) – On Friday the 30th October and Saturday 31st October, delegates from the region met with Fr Gildasio, the General Councillor for Social Communications, in a Zoom meeting. On the Friday, the Councillor for the region, Fr Jachimowicz Roman, was also in attendance.

Eleven Provinces were represented at the meeting, and prayers were offered for the delegates of Croatia and Czech Republic who were both ill.

Time was spent sharing the challenges and successes of the work of Social Communications in the various provinces, as well as exploring new ideas as we responded to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

We were grateful to the delegate of Slovakia who skilfully guided us through the eight priorities identified in the letter of August 16 from the Rector Major after the General Chapter. After group discussion and then a general gathering the delegates decided to focus on Priority 4 for the coming year - ‘Formation for being Salesian Pastors Today’, but it was also felt that this priority encompassed much from the other priorities.

As the meeting drew to a close, the delegates indicated their pleasure at meeting together, and were happy with the prospect of meeting a little more often (online) to discuss single-issue topics - one suggestion was whether the Salesians should be in the field of ‘Tik Tok’.

With thanks to those who prepared prayers and the ‘Good Night’ talks, the meeting concluded with words from Fr Gildásio and a Blessing.

Fr Bob Gardner, SDB
