Founded in 1930, the CDB has contributed a lot to building the history of Campo Grande and Mato Grosso do Sul. Having become an educational center of reference since the early decades, it was the cradle of important Salesian works such as the Don Bosco Museum of Cultures, in the 1950s, and the "Dom Aquino" Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters, founded in 1962, which became the “Don Bosco Catholic University” (UCDB) in 1993. The expansion of the institute in the 1980s, with the construction of the Don Bosco Sports Complex - further expanded in 1991 - also led it to become the largest multi-sports educational center in the State.
The architectural project, perfected starting in the 1930s, consists of large rooms, which favor meetings and school activities. The chapel occupies the central part of the courtyard and is visited daily by students, collaborators and visitors. The covered courtyard and the other internal courtyards and playgrounds are a natural invitation to recreation and playful activities in groups. And sports and cultural activities, so dear to Don Bosco, are cultivated at all educational levels.
But all the structures are small compared to the true uniqueness of the CDB, which resides in its charism: "The difference of a Salesian school from the others is all in the way in which everything is fulfilled: through much joy, love, affection and dialogue. Another differential is the Preventive System, based on reason, religion and kindness. As an educator, I see this system very much alive and current in our relationship with today's young people. Through this pedagogical practice we guarantee them an integral education and, following Don Bosco's great goal, we form 'good Christians and upright citizens'," explains Professor Monica Brites, a teacher at the CDB for 25 years.
The work welcomes children from kindergarten, with environments and teaching materials developed by the Salesian Edebê, which open up many possibilities for pedagogical work with children.
At elementary school, bilingual education, implemented in 2019 in collaboration with the International School, allows the effective learning of the English language and the broadening of students' horizons. And the educational path is also marked by access to new technologies.
And in high school, pedagogical activities take place full-time with interactive lessons and workshops prepared to complete the teaching-learning process.
Finally, school ministry involves students on a daily basis in welcoming, celebrations and meetings for the various educational levels, promoting parties and formation opportunities.
