RMG – An anniversary that unites and engages

11 March 2021

(ANS - Rome) - 11 March 2021 marks the first year of the election of Fr Ángel Fernandez Artime as Rector Major of the Salesians and successor of Don Bosco. The election for a second term took place during the 28th General Chapter held in Valdocco, Turin, in a context that has seen the Covid-19 pandemic develop rapidly throughout the world, affecting social and religious life worldwide.

With a renewed General Council as well, Fr Ángel concluded the Chapter and immediately set to work, encouraging and sowing hope. In these months, which were not easy for everyone, the Congregation moved forward with determination and openness.

Using online communication, Fr Ángel has tried to be present whenever possible, and the entire Salesian Family has felt his closeness to them in various circumstances and events. Having him as an attentive, practical and secure father is a gift that Providence has wanted to give the Salesian world in these times of risks, deaths and rapid transformations. Gathering around him in prayer becomes a spontaneous act of gratitude to God and a request for a renewed blessing on him.

Bearing hope within and around us, we remain close to the Rector Major, joyfully wishing him health and courage for the present and future.
