Rwanda – Huye: Rango Single Mothers need your help

21 April 2021

(ANS – Rango) – “When I complete the training, I will be able to buy clothes, body lotion, and therefore it will help me to strive for my development.” The Single Mothers of Rango in the Southern Province of Rwanda, Huye District, receive education and training with the help of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

The reception and training project for single mothers was introduced in 2013 with the objective of helping single mothers to come out of their isolation and to try, through human and professional training, to reintegrate them into society.

The Rango Single Mothers are pursuing the trade of tailoring.

“I came here to study after finding that I had no way. I gave birth at an early age, but luckily the priest told us to come and study. He agreed to pay for us. I accepted this because I needed knowledge so that I could have a better tomorrow,” said Byukusenge Chantal, one of the single mothers.

The results are manifested in the joy of living and the restoration of confidence by seeing their achievements and objects made by their own hands.

Thanks to this project, they are now more confident in their future because they will be able to earn an honest living from the fruit of their work.

However, they say they have a financial problem because when they complete their vocational training, they lack the ability to start a project or buy sewing machines, because most of them are poor.

“It would be better if they help us get sewing machines so that we can start creating our own jobs. We will leave here but will not be able to easily get sewing machines. They helped us but we want to finish the course and get the tools to start our own workshops,” added another single mother called Nyirahabyarimana Janviere.

They also share this with their teacher, Mrs. Dusenge Donathile, who also believes that they deserve help to improve their lives.

“One of the problems they have is the lack of means to create their own jobs. Because most of the time, they lack equipment. So, if there is support, they can get sewing machines so that they can use the skills that they have learned. When the skills are not used, then the skills they get will contribute nothing to their living conditions,” said Mrs. Dusenge.

In these times, when the global economy is in dire straits due to the effects of the COVID 19 epidemic, it is important to provide support to these parents so that they can work for their future.
