Zambia – ZMB Rector’s retreat and formation meeting

28 April 2021

(ANS – Lusaka) – After two months of the Extraordinary Visitation of ZMB Vice Province (Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Malawi) the Visitor, Fr Václav Klement, spent quality time, in the central week of April, with the 14 Rectors and the Provincial Council of the “Mary Help of Christians” Vice Province leaders for its annual retreat and two days of formation sessions. During the remaining three weeks he follows the visitation in Namibia and Zimbabwe, with the conclusion meetings in Zambia.

After visiting already 11 of 14 communities in Malawi and Zambia, the Visitor guided the annual spiritual retreat attended by 25 confreres on the theme “Following Jesus like Don Bosco” in the Kasisi Retreat Center, located at the outskirts of Lusaka - one of the most ancient missions in this part of Zambia (125 years of Catholic presence).

Thanks to this environment, the confreres were able to pray also the 'Way of Light' (Via Lucis). During the Rosary prayer at the local Catholic cemetery they also remembered - through storytelling - all seven SDBs (6 Polish missionaries and the first local confreres who passed away) and one FMA sister who rest in this place.

Two full days of Rectors formation contributed also to the evaluation of the ZMB Vice Province's development during the past 6 years, according to the 6 Salesian charismatic sectors (Formation, Youth Ministry, Social Communication, Missions, Economy and Salesian Family). Vibrant sharing and discussion were animated with various inputs emerging through the path of the extraordinary visitation.

The ZMB Vice Province offers at present a truly very dynamic profile with good vocation growth, more maturity of various new expressions of Salesian mission (secondary schools, street children, relaunching of the SYM), and more synergy among the different sectors.
