04 July 2016

(ANS - Bogotá) - The Juan Bosco Obrero Centre for Training and Development, along with the District Secretariat for Economic Development of the City of Bogota, started the Pacto Motor project in June.  It offers educational opportunities and employment for young people affected by the armed conflict in Colombia or other situations of vulnerability.

Among the speakers were Fr Luis Fernando Valencia, SDB, Economer of the Salesian Province of Medellín; Fr Héctor Franco SDB, Rector of Juan Bosco Obrero; Freddy Castro, from the District Secretariat of Economic Development, and Fr Jaime Morales, Salesian Provincial of Bogota. Also present were Fr Jaime García SDB, Vice-Rector of Juan Bosco Obrero, and Fr Mark Hyde and Mr. Jaime Correa from the Salesian Mission Office in New Rochelle.

Among those present were representatives of various companies which signed the protocol of intent to support the project: Los Coches, La Sabana, GMOVIL SAS, Mectronics SA, Scania Colombia, Consorcio Express, Resales Nissan, Authorized Workshops S.A. and the Integrated Transport Company of Bogota.

The companies are committed to providing relevant information for the diagnosis of the labour market; financial support for technical and human formation, making their premises available to assist in the training of students; creating positions for work placements for young people in the project; joint work schemes for young people and the appointment of someone to monitor the project.

This is the launch of an excellent project that will expand educational opportunities and work for young people most in need.
