Bolivia - Hundreds of young people prepare to be Salesian Leaders

05 July 2016

(ANS - Cochabamba) – According to the Reference Framework of Salesian Youth Ministry, "Group experience is one of the most important pedagogical insights in Salesian Youth Ministry. Don Bosco saw the importance of the group as an educational presence capable of multiplying formative influence.” And it goes on: "To opt for the group means constantly training educators and leaders." To this end, about 170 young people from the Salesian houses in Bolivia are participating in the National School of Leaders, with the motto: "The call".

The aim of the school is "starting from Salesian Youth Ministry and through a gradual process, to promote the ongoing systematic training of young leaders, to revitalize group, community and church activities in Salesian works with Christian social commitment and with the ability to manage and respond to the needs of their environment".

At this event they will work on the first of the four stages of training of leaders - the call. According to the training programme this will be followed by the next three stages - the response, commitment and mission.

Fr Javier Ortiz, the Salesian Provincial in Bolivia, welcomed the participants and gave the traditional Salesian good night. In it he said: "Don Bosco saw that the way to reach younger people is to find among them shepherds who will lead other young people and it was from these that he founded the Salesian Congregation. God invites you to be leaders in order to reach other young people, carrying Jesus in your heart.”

The Salesian youth leader is defined as a young person who follows Christ in Don Bosco, being a reflection of God's love for children, adolescents and young people. They are the recipients of his mission. They awaken in the leader the motivation for personal development and the exercise of leadership.

The House of Youth at Vinto, Cochabamba will host the meeting, from 4 to 8 July.
