Italy – "Notes of Youth Ministry" meets, discerns and plans its future

28 June 2021

(ANS - Rome) - On 21 June, in the "Sacro Cuore" house in Rome, the editorial team of Note di Pastorale Giovanile - Notes on Youth Ministry (NPG), met for their usual appointment of discernment and discussion as regards the Journal for the coming year. After having to meet online  due to the health emergency, this meeting took place in person. The work method was "generative discernment" to indeed foster personal presence and exchanges.

Offering an overview of what is happening in the Italian and universal Church were: Fr Michele Falabretti, Deputy Director of NPG and Head of the National Service for Youth Ministry; Ernesto Diaco, Director of the School Office of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), and Fr Rossano Sala, SDB, Director of NPG, professor at UPS, and former Special Secretary of the Synod on Youth.

After the introduction, a moment of generative discernment with everyone's contribution and thoughts on what had been heard were shared. The heart of the discussion was the epochal change still underway, epochal not only because the world is different than it was a year ago, but because everyone is invariably involved and filled with a strong feeling. "How can we answer the questions of meaning that today resonate in the lives of so many?" was one of the guiding questions of this phase. And the synodal journey, understood both as a method of work and as an exercise to implement pastoral actions, can certainly offer answers.

In the afternoon there was time for planning: after listening to the reflections in the morning, the members of the editorial team proposed topics for NPG's forthcoming year, a magazine that is expanding year by year even outside the Salesian world and that is now became a point of reference for the formation and study of youth ministry in the Italian Church.
