RMG – ESA Central Commission: job evaluation and programming in support of Global Pact for Education

08 July 2021

(ANS - Rome) - On Thursday 1 July, a new meeting of the Central Commission of the Salesian School in America (ESA, in Spanish) took place digitally, made up of representatives of the four regions that form the Network of Schools and Vocational Training Centers of the Provinces of the Salesians (SDB) and of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) on the American continent.

The following took part:

  • Sr. Adair Aparecida Sberga and Ana Paula Costa Silva, for the CIB-CIS-BRASIL region (which includes the Brazilian Provinces);
  • Sr. Flora Fanfan and Fr Carlos Montoya, for the CIMAC-Mesoamerica region (which includes the Provinces of North America and Central America);
  • Sr. Myriam Celeste Benítez and Rossanna Benítez, for the CICSAL and SEPSUR-Scuole region (which includes the Latin American South Cone Spanish-speaking Provinces);
  • Victoria Esperanza Paz Escobar and Fr Luis Adolfo Tórrez, for the CINAB-ANDINA region (which includes the Provinces of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia).

Also, Sr. Patricia Parraguez, FMA of Chile, Delegate for the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences "Auxilium"; and the ESA representatives of the FMA Sector and the SDB Department for ESA, respectively Sr. Ivone Goulart Lopes and Fr Claudio Cartes.

Immediately after the initial prayer, the work involved the review of the regional meetings held so far, giving an account of the processes initiated in the four regions. In this phase, the progress made in the dissemination of the ESA Identity Card and in strategic planning in the continent was highlighted.

Subsequently, the progress recorded in strategic planning regarding the four work axes that emerged from the ESA IV meeting was examined, identifying the process managers to be followed for each axis.

The ESA Central Commission then discussed ESA's commitment to the Global Pact for Education proposed by Pope Francis for all institutions whose purpose is the education of children, adolescents and young people all over the world. For the Salesian Family, an eminently educative family, this proposal of the Pope is in full harmony with its educational pastoral mission, for which it finds a complete and convinced echo and adhesion. To make this commitment to this Pact more concrete, the Salesian Family will continue to reflect on its implications and its meaning, and proposes to hold talks and discernment on the subject in each region, to finally arrive at a continental meeting on this theme.

The Salesian School in America (ESA) is an educational network that promotes the construction of educational environments and the fulfillment of processes, projects and aids to accompany with pedagogical itineraries the process experienced in every center, in every country, inculturating the Preventive System of Don Bosco in the American context. ESA works for quality education and social equality for all students, who face a context marked by poverty, growing social inequality and the deep gap in the development of digital technologies, which are not accessible to everyone.
