RMG – Charter of Identity of the Salesian School in America

12 July 2021

(ANS - Rome) - After a process of discernment and reflection carried out by the central team of the Salesian School in America (ESA), by the General Councilors for Youth Ministry (FMA and SDB), respectively, Sr. Runita Borja and Fr Miguel Angel García Morcuende, and after having collected the experiences and viewpoints of the four regions into which ESA is divided (CIB-CIS-BRASIL; CIMAC-Mesoamerica; CICSAL and SEPSUR-School; CINAB-ANDINA), the phase of drafting the ESA “Charter of Identity” has come to its conclusion. This important document is now being shared and published in each of the regional meetings taking place during this 2021.

ESA's "Charter of Identity" aims to be a common reference point for the construction of the educational-pastoral projects of the schools of the Salesian Family on the continent, helping to form a critical conscience and transform societies starting from the proposal of integral formation born with Don Bosco.

With this Charter of Identity, written in 5 languages, a new step is taken in the consolidation of the network on the American continent, strengthening the Salesian mission of educating and evangelizing according to the foundations of the Preventive System, through the Educational Pastoral Communities, and fostering the leadership of young people in these processes.

The mission of the Salesian School in America is developed through the presence of over 900 schools that take care, according to the Salesian charism, of children, adolescents and young people and that are committed to offering an educational service of integral formation, with educational-pastoral projects with a clear charismatic identity, proactive and fulfilled in co-responsibility between consecrated persons and laity for the benefit of the whole of society throughout the American continent.

The Salesians of Don Bosco, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, the Daughters of the Divine Savior and other members of the Salesian Family are part of this network of schools which make up ESA and have been working on the continent in units for more than 30 years.

Fr Claudio Cartes, SDB,

ESA reference person for the SDB Youth Ministry Department
