The site was inaugurated as a vaccination center on June 24 with eight simultaneously active vaccine points, and continued to operate on June 25 and 26 and July 1 and 2. On 3, 4, 6 and 9 July, its capacity increased to 15 delivery points, thus making the service more extensive and faster. The center, which operates under the responsibility of the Municipal Secretariat of Health (Sesau), enjoys the full support of the UCDB and, in fact, alongside the municipal technicians, the students of Nursing, Pharmacy and Biomedicine courses collaborate with vaccinations.
The center operates in "Drive-In" mode with patients not even having to get out of their cars to receive their dose; a formula that was preferred because it ensures greater agility and minimizes contact between people waiting to be vaccinated.
"With this Drive-In service, the UCDB feels embraced by the people of Campo Grande and can even embrace them again in turn. We know that we are benefiting the population and this is gratifying. We are doing what Don Bosco would have done in his time: opening the doors and helping in difficult moments," said the interim Rector of the UCDB, Bro. Raffaele Lochi, SDB.
Since the first half of 2020, the UCDB has acted vigorously and in various ways to combat Covid-19. Recently, for example, it has lent one of its super-freezers to the Municipality of Campo Grande for the conservation of vaccines that must be stored at temperatures well below freezing; as well as high-tech machinery for the processing of swabs at the central laboratory of Mato Grosso do Sul.
In the UCDB Clinic-School, dozens of people benefited from psychological assistance services (face-to-face and remote) offered to those who suffered from the pandemic and its consequences. While those who have contracted Covid-19 and suffer its aftermath and consequences physically can benefit from sessions for muscle strengthening and for improving breathing.
