Last year, the NGO's work was dominated by the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to the great solidarity of donors and cooperation partners was it possible, despite this challenge, to carry out 214 projects around the world and support 892,205 children and young people.
“We look back on a year of enormous challenges and thank everyone for the trust and support they have placed in us. Our team in Bonn has also shown great flexibility and dedication. Together we have given to the disadvantaged children and young people around the world an opportunity in these difficult times,” said Silvia Cromm, Managing Director for Programs and Projects, summing up the year 2020.
About 1.1 million euros were spent to address the current health emergency, while another 13.1 million euros were donated to the work of ongoing projects, such as two innovative projects in India. Here, the fisherwomen are learning to drive an electric rickshaw to ensure the survival of their families and some apprentices are becoming specialists through an e-learning program. In Africa, the NGO aims to build a continental network of nearly 100 Salesian vocational schools and training centers. The goal is to improve the quality of education in 34 sub-Saharan African countries, so that young people have better opportunities on the labor market.
Summarizing, in 2020, “Don Bosco Mondo e. V.” supported 214 education and training projects in a total of 45 countries and helped homeless youth and refugee women.
“Don Bosco Mondo e. V.” considers school education and vocational training as the key to giving young people the opportunity to live an independent life free from poverty. In close collaboration with the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, assistance is provided to millions of children and adolescents. Each year, it mobilizes personnel and resources - spiritual and financial - to support disadvantaged young people around the world.
