Spain - Salesian Social Platforms accompanied over 52,000 people during hardest pandemic times

(ANS - Madrid) - The State Coordination Committee of the Salesian Social Platforms presented its 2020 report that includes all the work carried out in favor of society's most vulnerable people. The entire activity was marked by the harsh effects of the crisis triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

During 2020, 52,667 people participated in one of the more than 500 projects that the Salesian Social Platforms have developed in 74 municipalities of Spain, thanks to more than 1,700 workers and 900 volunteers, with the collaboration of various funding bodies.

Besides the work carried out during 2020, it also publishes various testimonies of several people who collaborate, or have collaborated, in the growth of the State level Coordination of the Salesian Social Platforms. These testimonials describe what it meant for them to participate in this common project with an eye to the people who need it most.

"Thank you all for this shared time. I hope that in future, the people who make up this organization can look to the past with the same pride that I have. For this, we have the challenge of continuing to work as we have done so far," said Paco Estellés, President of the State Coordination of Salesian Social Platforms, in the presentation of the publication.

A new edition of "Toma las Riendas" (Take the reins), highlights the following milesstones in its report: the continuation of the reception program for the young applicants seeking international protection, the legal orientation program, the start of the work on the Plan for equality, the new platform for online training and the "Red-In" mapping tool.

In addition, the work of the economic area of ​​the State Coordination of Salesian Social Platforms, through which all requests for subsidies and their justifications they generate are channelled and it takes up a large part of the team’s efforts and work time.

The Salesian Social Platforms continue to work to remain a significant reference point for social and educational policies in Spain and to consolidate themselves as a space for reflection, formation and innovation. In 2020, the State Coordination of Salesian Social Platforms celebrated the first 20 years of activity. It was in fact created in 2000 to coordinate the ten social entities of Salesians and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) of Spain which promote the social inclusion of vulnerable children, young people and families through integral education.
