South Korea – The first Korean SDB, Rev. Tadeo Park, has returned to the Father’s House

(ANS – Gwangju) – On September 3, 2021, Fr. Tadeo Park Byeong-dal, SDB, the first Salesian conferere and priest of the Korea province, passed away at the age of 90. Many Salesian families visited the chapel where he was laid in state, and prayed for him in both Gwangju and Seoul.

Fr. Tadeo Park died of old age at Chosun University Hospital in Gwangju Archdiocese.

He joined the Salesian Society in 1958, he made his novitiate in japan at the time of Msgr Vincent Cimatti, now Venerable, in Japan in 1961, and became the first Salesian in Korea to profess vows in 1962.

For the next 60 years, he performed various duties as the eldest confrere of the Salesian Society in Korea, particularly dedicated to the Salesian Middle School and High School.
The Requiem mass was held on September 6 at the Shinan-dong community in Gwangju with Fr Timothy Choi Won-cheol as main celebrant after which Fr Park's remains were interred in the Damyang Catholic Cemetery along with other Salesians who have died in Korea.
