RMG – A booklet to share "The news of the Kingdom of God that emerged in the groups of the Salesian Family" during the pandemic

17 September 2021

(ANS - Rome) - On the threshold of the year 2021, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, invited the entire Salesian Family to revive the virtue of hope, and he did so through the traditional message of the Strenna, entitled: “Moved by hope. Behold, I am making all things new” (Rev 21,5). The expression reflects Don Bosco's profound spirit of faith based on the ever faithful, creator and provident God, involved in the salvation of humanity. But it was also a response to the difficult world situation deriving from the Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected, and still affects, millions of people and has highlighted many other emergencies in the world, which which directly affect the poorer young people.

How has the Salesian Family lived and continues to live this time?

what “News of the Kingdom of God” is currently emerging in the various groups of our large family?

This was the reflection proposed to the world leaders of the Groups gathered for the Advisory Board or Consulta of the Salesian Family, which took place online on 21, 22 and 23 May 2021.

Undoubtedly it was worthwhile to deepen the meaning of Christian hope in such dramatic times as the present, to discover the face of God in them, opening up another way of looking at reality, helping each other to experience the Lord’s presence and creative action up close, and to follow - with Him - the new paths that Providence is showing us.

For this reason, the Secretariat for the Family, led by the Central Delegate of the Rector Major, Fr Joan Lluís Playá, has seen it fit to collect and publish a book that wants to make known the fruit of what has been shared with the World Advisory Board.

This publication aims to be an exercise in communication, not only of what has been done, but also of what has been experienced and learned. In the simplicity of these pages one can discover many traits of the Great News of the Kingdom, which the Lord is causing to sprout and bear fruit in the various Groups of the Salesian Family and in the environments where they carry out their mission, each with characteristics of its own charism.

These pages include the contributions that a good number of Groups have sent to the Secretariat of the Salesian Family. The booklet concludes with the essay "Hope and care for the present", which Fr Gustavo Cavagnari, Professor of Pastoral Theology at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in Rome, addressed to the assembly of the World Advisory Board, whose reading will stimulate everyone to live "hope, taking care of the present" with true passion.

The booklet, produced in five languages - Italian, English, Spanish, French and Portuguese - is conceived as a tool for the animation of the various groups of the Salesian Family, and for this reason, it will soon reach the Delegates for the Salesian Family all over the world.
