Poland – 25 years of precious service of the Lutomiersk Salesian Secondary School of Music

01 October 2021

(ANS - Lutomiersk) - For many Salesians, teachers, young people, local authorities and communities in Poland, a significant event took place in September 1996, which constituted an important novelty and a state-of-the-art educational structure. At that time, in fact, in the small town of Lutomiersk - which, by the way, will be officially recognised as a town on 1 January 2022 - the Salesian Secondary School of Music (a state Organ School), was established as a continuation of the traditional Salesian Organ School in Przemyśl (1918-1963).

To celebrate this important anniversary, the Salesian institute has kicked off some celebratory events, which were initiated after a solemn Eucharist presided over by the Provincial of the Warsaw Province - Fr Tadeusz Jarecki, SDB, who on the occasion also animated all those present with words of jubilation.

During the Mass there was also the first public performance of the composition of the Mass in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary Help of Christians by Michał Sławecki, a student of the school, who dedicated it to the institute on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its existence. The composition was performed by the music choir of Sokołów Podlaski under the direction of Aneta Mroczek, also a student of the school.

The Eucharist was followed by the concert of the graduates and then, in the atrium of the student residence, the official program was held with speeches by the authorities, felicitations and the presentation of momentos prepared especially for the occasion.

The Silver Jubilee celebrations also attracted many former students, about 150 of whom were gathered for the celebrative feast. Among the special invitees were Salesians, especially those who have been linked to the school in various ways (as assistants, teachers, educators...), numerous directors of music schools in the region, as well as representatives of the State and local authorities.

The Minister of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, Prof. Dr. Piotr Gliński awarded medals and honorary diplomas to people associated with the school. The "Zasłużony Kulturze-Gloria Artis" medals were awarded to Fr Zbigniew Malinowski, SDB, the first Director of the School, and Fr Kazimierz Dąbrowski, SDB, the current Director of the School. In addition, some teachers like Agnieszka Adrianowska, Emilia Merecka-Kułak, Agnieszka Wrocławska-Wieczorek were also honoured.

After the official celebrations, a commemorative photo and a moment of fraternal agape, the festive celebrations ended with a meeting of the past pupils and teachers at the Don Bosco Youth Centre, where they could recall the years spent together.
