RMG – Don Bosco Network General Assembly

06 October 2021

(ANS – Rome) – On 4th and 5th October 2021, “Don Bosco Network” (DBN), the worldwide federation of Salesian development NGO’s and mission offices, organized it’s bi-annual General Assembly in Sacro Cuore in Rome. After almost 2 years of virtual meetings, the members of the Don Bosco Network had the pleasure to meet each other again in real life. Despite the absence of Salesian Mission (USA) and Bosconet (India), which couldn’t travel because of the Covid-19 restrictions, the smiles and positive atmosphere showed that human contact is essential to build strong relationships.

Monday evening, the meeting started with an informal gathering on the terrace of the General House. All representatives and other guests were welcomed by Peter Annegarn, the President of DBN. They were also pleased to welcome Fr. Alfred Maravilla, General Councillor for the Missions, and some of the new Provincials who are currently following an induction course in the General House. It was an ideal moment for both groups to get to know each other better, since between most of the NGO’s and Provinces there has been a long lasting cooperation for the implementation of many strong social and educational projects.

On Tuesday, under a bright Italian sun, the official part of the meeting started. Under the guidance an external facilitator, Sven Retoré from “Visuality”, participants started the process of developing a new masterplan for the period 2022-2026. Some brainstorming, intense exchange and discussions and productive working methods made them reflect on their work as Salesian NGO’s, the cooperation with the Mission Sector and look forward to the further development of Don Bosco Network.

The afternoon brought back to the current situation of the network. A more formal exchange on the current situation inside the organizations, the situation within the network and updates from the mission sector were on the agenda.

Peter Annegarn closed the meeting with words of gratitude and positivism: “I am satisfied that we could finally meet in Rome after such a long time. My gratitude goes to Fr. Alfred and Fr. George (Menamparampil) for welcoming us in the general house. I am also very grateful for the hard work we all did and happy with the outcomes of the meeting. The first steps have been taken in our pathway towards the further development of the network. Let’s continue our work for the young and vulnerable all over the world.”
