India – “Write for the good”: a capacity-building initiative by BOSCONET for the staff of 11 Don Bosco Province, Program Development Offices in India

(ANS – Pilar) – One of the roles of BOSCONET, the network of Don Bosco Program Development Offices (PDOs) in India, is to enhance the capacity of its constituent partners in various domains, consistently. BOSCONET organized a capacity-building program for the Don Bosco PDO staff titled “Write for the Good” – a practical, exercise-oriented workshop on how to write a winning fundraising proposal. This is a sequel workshop with three modules of three days each. The first module of this sequel was held at Pilar Centre, Goa from 07 October 2021 to 09 October 2021. Twenty-five PDO staff from the Don Bosco Provinces in India participated in it.

The following topics were discussed - Important aspects that constitute a winning fundraising proposal, common components of a proposal, how to identify a problem, cause-effect analysis of a problem, various problem analysis tools, objective analysis, strategy analysis, the importance of objectives, difference between goals and objectives, how to frame SMART objectives, baseline survey, tools and baseline survey, types of questions & how to frame questions for the baseline survey tool.

The session was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Felix, the Provincial of Panjim Province (INP), Fr. Noel, Director, Bosconet, illustrated the need of this training in the context of Development by Don Bosco partners. Mr. Louis Manohar, the National Coordinator (also a resource person at various national level training institutes) engaged the participants through effective and participatory sessions. The feedback on the content, methodology and logistics of the workshop was overwhelming with participants giving it a rating of 4.8, on a 5-point scale.

The training was coordinated by Fr. Santhanam, Asst. Director, Bosconet and the team. The second and third modules are planned for the last week of November and first week of December 2021.
