RMG – Fr Francisco Inácio Vieira Junior appointed Superior of the Brazil-Recife Province (BRE)

(ANS - Rome) - During the meeting of the General Council on Wednesday 15 December, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consensus of the same Council, appointed Fr Francisco Inácio Vieira Junior, the new Provincial Superior of the BRE Province.

Fr Francisco Inácio Vieira Junior is 40 years old and was born in the interior of the State of Ceará, in Juazeiro do Norte, the land of Fr Cícero Romão Batista, great benefactor of the Salesian house. His parents, Francisco and Maria, live in this city, as does his older brother. It was here that he met the Salesians and decided to begin his vocational journey.

He did his novitiate in Jaboatão-Colônia, where he made his first vows on January 30, 2003. He continued with his post-novitiate in Recife, at the work of Bongi, where he completed his two years of training. He studied Theology in São Paulo, in the Lapa Center. He made his perpetual profession on 30 January 2009 in Recife-Bongi and was ordained a priest on 18 December 2010 in Recife (Basilica of the Sacred Heart).

Between 2011 and 2015 he studied Liturgy at the San Anselmo Institute in Rome. Since February 2015 he has been part of the team of formators of the Theological Studentate of Lapa, as Vicar of the community and coordinator of studies of the institute.

In February 2019 he was recalled to his Recife Province to serve as Delegate for Youth Ministry, Provincial Councilor and Secretary, positions he still holds today.

Fr Francisco Inácio Vieira Junior, appointed for the 2022-2028 term, succeeds Fr Nivaldo Luiz Pessinatti, who spent six years in the generous animation and government service of the Northeast Province of Brazil.
