Spain - Salesian Social Platforms launch project "Agents of Equality"

15 April 2022

(ANS - Madrid) -Marta, Alba, Carmen, Elsa, Ana, Miquel, Carmen, Laura, Natalia and Diana are the first generation of educators from the Salesian Social Platforms who will accompany 20 boys and girls in the first edition of "Agents of Equality": a program of empowerment of young people as agents of equality and prevention of violence that began in Madrid.

This project aims to offer training in the field of gender-based violence prevention to young people who have been part of Salesian Social Platforms projects so that they can work with them as agents of change positively and directly in their groups of friends and acquaintances.

The role of the educational team is very important since its mission is to generate spaces for empowerment. The program, launched in March, boasts the collaboration of the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Agenda 2030 program.

In the first phase, a two-day training was developed with 10 reference educators from the different Salesian social platforms. This first training’s objective was to acquire tools and knowledge about participation and gender-based violence, establish appropriate synergies, schedule the process, and, above all, share their experiences and emotions.

With the accompaniment of Paula Roldán Gutiérrez, the participants successfully achieved the objective of these training days. "The return, after two years apart, to in-person training days fostered the motivation of the group, which showed determination to live the experience and apply the empowerment methodology and gender perspective used in this project in their respective entities," says Gema Rodríguez, program manager of the State Coordination of Salesian Social Platforms.

Recovering mindfulness, knowing how to listen and be listened to, growing and learning are some of the priorities participants shared on this journey, which will now continue through online training and networking.

This will facilitate knowledge and a sense of ownership of the program, working on key aspects of gender-based violence prevention and generating safe and trusting spaces that facilitate participation and knowledge of youth skills and dreams.

After the online training, they will move on to the next phase, which involves a two-day meeting where they can combine the most theoretical concepts with activities, personal and group work. Once these phases are completed, a process of continuous accompaniment in the different entities will still, however, be necessary.
