Spain – Meetings of Iberian Conference and Mediterranean Region

(ANS - Sevilla) - From April 25 to 27, the Salesian community of Sanlúcar la Mayor, near Seville, hosted two important Salesian coordination events: the meeting of the Iberian Conference - which gathers the two Salesian Provinces of Spain and that of Portugal - and the meeting of the Mediterranean Region, which provides for the participation of the Provincials and Delegates of Youth Ministry of all the Provinces of this region: in addition to those already mentioned of Spain and Portugal, also the six Provinces of Italy and that of the Middle East. During these days of intense work and fruitful animation, Fr Gildasio Mendes, General Councilor for Social Communication, and Bro. Jean Paul Muller, General Economer, as well as Fr Juan Carlos Pérez Godoy, who, as Councilor for the Mediterranean Region, convoked and chaired the meetings, also took part.

Among the topics covered by the Iberian Conference were the study of the statutes of the Salesian National Center for Youth Ministry, formation in Europe, and various information on current projects and general activities, such as Salesian participation in World Youth Day 2023 in Lisbon, the development of the next edition of "Campobosco" and refugee reception operations.

At the meeting of the Mediterranean Region, the interventions of Fr Mendes stood out in particular, as well as that of Fr Joan Lluís Playà, Central Delegate of the Rector Major for the Secretariat for the Salesian Family, who was accompanied by the Vietnamese Nguyen Duc Nam Dominic, World Delegate for Salesian Cooperators and Past Pupils; moreover, the founding proposal of "Don Bosco Tech-Europe" and the deepening of the collaboration with the Province of the Middle East (MOR) were listened to with great interest.

Planning the next events in the Region, information was given on the preparation of the Congress of Social Platforms, which will take place at the beginning of the next academic year, on the seminar for the promotion of vocations, that of young migrants, the Spiritual Exercises and the course for Provincial Vicars.

The meeting, which ended with a cultural visit to Seville, to its cathedral and its artistic beauties, was considered by all a time of fraternal dialogue to evaluate and plan the Salesian initiatives in the region.
