Kenya – First ADMA Center in Eastern Africa: Nzaikoni Parish

06 May 2022

(ANS – Nzaikoni) – Discovered, so to speak, during Fr Václav Klement’s Extraordinary Visitation to AFE (Eastern Africa Province of Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, and Tanzania) was the first center of ADMA (Association of Mary Help of Christians) in the parish of Nzaikoni (St Francis of Assisi, diocese of Machakos, near Nairobi) that has been entrusted to the Salesians since 1991.

Under the animation of its first spiritual animator Fr Paul Luseno, the formation of the first group of 87 Aspirants was started in 2016, with their promise in 2019. To date, there are 96 aspirants and 242 ADMA members, coming together in 9 different substations. Their ongoing formation is much motivated by Swahili language translations of ADMA Regulations and related.

At present, the spiritual animator of ADMA Nzaikoni is Fr Peter Mugo, the rector. He and the parish priests head a 4 SDB-strong community fully committed to the evangelization and youth ministry throughout this vast area. The Nzaikoni parish of 10,000 Catholics extends across 24 missionary substations in the hills area, located 80 km from the capital of Kenya.

With this 'discovery', ADMA becomes the 10th group of the Salesian Family present in the four countries of Eastern Africa province (AFE Provincial Fr Simon Asira) along with SDB, FMA, Salesian Cooperators, Don Bosco Past Pupils, FMA Past Pupils, VDB, Caritas Sisters of Jesus, Visitation Sisters of Don Bosco, Sisters of Mary Immaculate and Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians.

Thanks to the animation session with the Extraordinary Visitor “ad nutum” and “pro tempore”, Fr Václav Klement, this large ADMA group established the first communication and relationship with the ADMA Primaria in Turin-Valdocco and with the World Spiritual Animator, Fr Alejandro Guevara.
