Italy – 3rd School for Salesian Youth Ministry Provincial Delegates begins in Valdocco

09 May 2022

(ANS - Turin) - On May 4, one of the proposals made in the planning of the 2020-2026 term of the Youth Ministry Sector began: the accompaniment and qualification of Provincial Delegates for Youth Ministry. There are three aims of this initiative in which 46 delegates from all Regions participate. First of all, to offer an in-depth vision of the Salesian educative-pastoral model, in line with the "Frame of Reference" for Salesian Youth Ministry. Also included are experiences or services of animation and vocational orientation, educational strategies and interventions regarding youth and prayer, the theme of the relationship between youth, music and media, and lastly, integral ecology.

Secondly, to provide adequate competencies and key skills to animate, manage and coordinate the dynamics of the service of provincial pastoral animation, that is, the relationship with: the Provincial and his Council, the communities and the works, the Provincial Team of Youth Ministry and the commissions and groups of provincial animation, the Salesian Family, its own "Job description" and the Sector for Salesian Youth Ministry.

Lastly, foster personal growth through reflection on experiences, internalization, and personal reworking of motivations, in the context of Salesian charismatic identity at Valdocco. Thus, the work on personal attitudes, personal work habits, good habits for the emotional life, care for the spiritual life, and the culture of reflection and evaluation.

Special importance in these 15 days of formation is given to moments of celebration, individual reading and reflection, roundtable discussions, and moments of spirituality in Valdocco and in the Salesian places.

On the feast day of Dominic Savio, May 6, Fr Miguel Angel García Morcuende, General Councilor for Youth Ministry, recalled: "St. Dominic Savio at the Oratory of Valdocco began to walk fast on the road that Don Bosco traced out for him 'to become a saint': not only with his commitment to prayer and study, doing good to others but also with cheerfulness. If music needs the cavity of the flute, the letters of the blank page, the light of the window’s void, Salesian holiness needs cheerfulness. True Salesian holiness consists in doing God's will with a smile."
