America – RASS: "We’re in training to provide quality and warm Salesian care in America"

18 May 2022

(ANS) - Beginning in April 2021 and running through March 2022, the Salesian Social America Network (RASS) has developed its Ongoing Formation Program in online mode, aimed at improving the quality of the processes of Salesian social works and services that work with children and youth at high risk of social exclusion across the Americas.

The course was designed in collaboration with the Center for Ongoing Formation "Institute of Salesian Studies at Don Bosco Hall," based in Berkeley, U.S.A., and the Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) of America, specifically the Catholic University "Silva Henríquez" of Chile, the Salesian University of Argentina and the Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador. As part of the formative program, four modules were proposed:

  • Salesian leadership for social transformation
  • Human rights-based education and inclusion
  • Impact on public policies for children, adolescents, and youth
  • Participatory management and institutional projection

To foster participation and exchange of experiences among participants in each course, the didactic sessions during the training period were held on Fridays, in two groups of 32 participants each, with a duration of two hours per class. Approximately 256 educators and members of the management and administrative sector of the 18 provinces that make up the network participated in this formation process, and of these, at least 75 percent successfully passed all the modules proposed.

"We are thrilled to have developed this training proposal that has become a great contribution to the service of enhancing the human talent of the Salesian Family working in our works and social services in America," said network leaders.

The purpose of this training course is for each participant to treasure all the knowledge imparted in each of the modules and to use the training resources hosted on the institution's website to initiate processes of replication and dissemination of what they have learned in each of their provinces and social works.

"In this way, we unite our forces to continue to fulfill Don Bosco's dream: to achieve true social transformation that leads to the integral development of children, adolescents, and young people at high risk of social exclusion," people at RASS stated in conclusion.
