South Korea - The fruits of constantly sharing the Word of God in Korea

17 August 2022

(ANS - Nae-ri) - Since last 2019, as Rector of the Salesian Retreat House by the Sea in Nae-ri, 150 km from Seoul, Fr. Stephen Yang, SDB, has been living more than ever with a passion for sharing God's Word, living it day by day. In fact, since May 2011, he has published no less than 1923 daily "Meditations" on the Daily Gospel, posted on SDB's Korean website (http://ibosco.net), under his nickname "Shepherd" (Yang-chi-gi).

Sharing God's Word daily through one's personal faith experience requires passion, discipline and focus. Through this tenacious and practical sharing, Fr. Yang was invited to contribute to the weekly Catholic newspaper CPBC and the monthly magazine "Bible and Life," published by the Caritas Sisters of Jesus. In turn, Fr. Yang's monthly articles were later collected and published in 6 different volumes.

Looking at the East Asia-Oceania Region, we find other similar experiences, mostly on the Sunday Gospel reading: Audio-divina in Australia, by Fr. Francis Moloney, SDB; the Gospel-centered homily in the Philippines, by Salesian Bishop Patricio Abella Buzob, or the Sunday Gospel on the YouTube channel of the Salesians in Vietnam.

In addition to these individual sharing in the East Asia-Oceania Region, there are also other special experiences, such as the daily Salesian Lectio Divina in collaboration with the Salesians of Argentina.

The fruits of this daily sharing of the "digital" Word are diverse. For the writer it is a transparent bearing witness of evangelical living, while for the readers of these daily "Meditations" it is an inspiration to take the Word of God more seriously and personally in our daily lives.

Undoubtedly, Fr. Yang and all the brethren who devote themselves to the constant sharing of God's Word through digital platforms deserve special thanks, with the hope that their example will arouse in many young people a thirst for God's Word.
