RMG – Artemide Zatti. Paradise for a Bicycle - An Exhibition dedicated to the new saint

30 September 2022

(ANS - Rome) - On the occasion of the canonization of Blessed Artemide Zatti, Salesian coadjutor, (Boretto 1880 - Viedma 1951) an exhibition, consisting of 17 panels, was designed and produced, entitled: Artemide Zatti. Paradise for a Bicycle. The exhibition is on display at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Rome and will be open from Oct. 1 to 16.

Through the symbol of the bicycle, which characterized Artemide's ride toward Heaven, the exhibition is divided into three stages. "Credetti – I believed": five panels illustrating the family of origin, the grace of baptism, the migrant experience, the guidance of Fr. Evasio Garrone, and the "yes" of faith. Next, "Promisi - I Promised": a few panels presenting Artemis' vocational journey, his discernment with the help of wise guides, listening to circumstances, and his choice for a vocation as a Salesian coadjutor. Finally, "Guarii – I was healed": healed in body and transformed in soul, Artemide devoted his entire life to the service of the sick and the poor in the hospital of Viedma, with the compassion of the Good Samaritan and Salesian joy, until crossing the finish line of heaven on March 15, 1951, and that of canonized sainthood on October 9, 2022.

The message of the exhibition is well summed up in the sentence that introduces the itinerary: "One day one of the doctors asked him, 'Don Zatti, are you happy?' 'Very. How about you, doctor?' 'I'm not...' 'You see, each person carries happiness within himself: be content and satisfied with what you have, whether it is little or nothing: this is what the Lord wants from us. He takes care of the rest.'"

The exhibition was desired and planned by the Salesian Province of Lombardo-Emilian Italy (ILE) and produced by graphic designer Andrea Cugini, with the collaboration of Andrea Marconi and the photographic contribution of the Salesian Historical Archive of the "Blessed Zeffirino Namuncurá" Province of Southern Argentina (ARS), in Bahía Blanca, Argentina.
