RMG – On the way to October 9: the many faces of the future saint, Artemide Zatti, SDB

05 October 2022

(ANS - Rome) - Is it possible to define Artemide Zatti, the Blessed Salesian coadjutor whom Pope Francis will declare a saint next Sunday, Oct. 9, in one word? Probably not, because there are many facets to his multifaceted figure. On the official website created for Zatti's canonization - www.zatti.org - five particular aspects are identified that deserve to be highlighted. Let us discover them together.

Zatti: migrant, believer, Salesian, nurse... saint

The figure of Artemide Zatti, his life and history, is intense, prolific and allows us to work on many themes and aspects of his spirituality. The Salesian Bulletin of Argentina proposes five lines of reflection:

Zatti, migrant: like millions of families at the time, the Zatti family emigrated from Italy to Argentina in search of better living conditions. What does Zatti have to say to today's migrants?

Zatti, believer: what was Zatti's faith like? Faith was the guide of his life, the strength to face difficulties. As his motto testifies, "I believed, I promised, I was healed."

Zatti, Salesian: Zatti is a model of the lay Salesian or Salesian brother or "coadjutor." Joy, simplicity, and community are his main features.

Zatti, nurse: he sees Jesus himself in the poor and the sick. He studies and becomes a professional to be useful to people's needs.

Zatti, saint: How did Br. Zatti’s devotion arise? What did his contemporaries see in him? Early biographies. The current state of devotion to Zatti.

All these articles are now available on the home page of www.zatti.org (in Spanish).

The first four have also already been translated and republished by ANS, and the last one will also be shared by this same agency and the official canonization website by next Friday, Oct. 7.
