Chile – "Fundación Don Bosco" inaugurates new family residence in "Padre Hurtado" district

17 November 2022

(ANS - Santiago) - Last Friday, November 11, the new family residence "Casa Pinardi" of the "Fundación Don Bosco," started last August in the municipality of Padre Hurtado, was officially inaugurated.

Claudio Chávez, Development Director of "Fundación Don Bosco," welcomed representatives of the Regional Ministerial Secretary (SEREMI) of Social and Family Development, the Municipality of Padre Hurtado, and the Presidential Delegation of the Province of Talagante.

The ceremony began with a tour of the facilities, which have everything needed to make guests feel welcomed and at home: bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, laundry room, courtyard, and a space for a future computer room.

Afterward, FDB President Fr. Victor Mora thanked SEREMI representatives from the Ministry of Social Development and Family for their contribution and joint work "in taking care of the needs our country is experiencing today. This is meant to be an alternative that permits families to plan their future," he said.

Then he continued: "I am grateful for the presence of the authorities because this is a sign that working together is more fruitful. May this place be a home for families, a home where they can meet and be formed."

Next, Alesio Castillo, a Venezuelan migrant and resident of Casa Pinardi, who lived on the streets with his family, gave his testimony of life.

"I used to sleep in the squares with my two children and my wife. This foundation has given us a hand. This space feels like a home... I am grateful to God, grateful to Marcos, who has an amazing work team...from the bottom of my heart, thank you, I will never forget you."

Patricia Hidalgo, of SEREMI of Social Development of the Santiago Metropolitan Region, said she was very happy and excited about the inauguration of the family residence. "We already knew the human quality of the foundation team. Thank you for having faith in us and our methodologies, you are our allies... we have to make these synergistic alliances so that the children of our country grow up happy, and we have to give their parents the opportunity then as well."

The ceremony concluded with the moment of blessing and the traditional ribbon cutting.

The ceremony was also attended by: Sergio Mercado, Executive Director of FDB; Cristian Vilches, lieutenant to the mayor of Padre Hurtado; Francesca Castro, representative of the Delegate of the Provincial Presidency; the Rector of "Casa Pinardi," Marco Toledo; and his team working in the family residence.

"Casa Pinardi" joins the FDB pilot project carried out in La Florida, replicating the work done in the "Cardenal Silva Henríquez" family residence: places that seek to be a home for families living on the streets, in which to give them psychosocial support, training, and help in finding stable housing.

Today the house is full: a total of 19 people live there, including adults and children.
