Italy – Celebration in Chieri for visit of 10th Successor of Don Bosco

30 January 2023

(ANS - Rome) - Sunday, January 29, was a memorable day for Chieri. The Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, arrived in the Piedmontese town to preside at the 11 a.m. Eucharistic celebration, surrounded by the joyful presence of 640 faithful. It was also possible to follow the service from home through live streaming and television.

In his homily, Fr. Á.F. Artime recalled that Don Bosco founded the Congregation together with his boys. The activities of the Oratory had become so many and Don Bosco could not follow them all...with whom to share? With those with whom he had always shared his heart and dreams: his boys. A society was thus born here to do good for others and at the same time for oneself, for one’s own salvation... and thus began the Salesian Congregation.

The Rector Major then dwelt on the second reading, emphasizing that God does great things with simple people, who have no power, people sometimes who are not appreciated by the world... but God looks at the heart. Therefore, he said, each person is called not to be afraid and to give the best of themselves, confident that He will turn their little into much.
In the afternoon, accompanied by the "Fabbricanti di giocoleria", professional actors, the faithful present had the opportunity to visit the most significant places that marked the experience of the student Giovanni Bosco in Chieri - the San Luigi Institute, the church of San Domenico, the Jewish ghetto, the church of San Filippo, the Cathedral, the Caffè Pianta, the Santa Teresa Institute... Along the various stages, the participants were reminded of what the Youth Saint himself had to say, "The years in Chieri were the most beautiful of my life."
